The last time I was talking about how much I liked the new task bar in Windows 7. Since then, I’ve been thinking about this a little more and trying to figure out exactly why I like the new task bar so much.
Do I just like anything new? Not really. I hate new things when they’re not as good as the thing I had before.
I think what it really boils down to is this, “Simpler is Better”. I don’t want to complicate my life any more than it has to be. Microsoft engineers found a way to combine the functionality of 2 spots on the task bar into 1. With the new design, my shortcuts are combined with the tabs of currently running applications. This makes sense to me, and it saves space on my screen! The icons look bigger and nicer – but I could make the icons bigger in Vista and XP anyway – the real change is that it simplifies my life while giving me the same functionality and more!
That’s what I like.
